Calcite has a unique optical quality of double refraction. Draw a line with a pen on a piece of paper and then place a piece of calcite over the line. When you look through the stone, the line will appear to be doubled.
This property causes calcite to be used in spells to "double the power". It is placed on the altar or used during a magickal ritual for this purpose. A natural wand can be used in any spell casting to direct energy.
Orange Calcite (honey calcite) in particular is a protective calcite which lends energy to the body when held. Also can be used as a cleansing and purifying agent and to help with overcome drepression and lift the mood.
